Can anyone give a very simple explanation of Hubble?

Can someone (not a super physicist), give a simple explanation on how the Hubble can see things that are trillions of miles away? I understand how a zoom on a simple camera works, but....trillions! of miles, seems a bit ridiculous, if someone can let me know a simple explanation, I would appreciate it, thanks!!
