How can I dye fabric in an outer-space type print?

I want to try my hand at dyeing black fabric in space-y type patterns, similar to some of Christopher Kane's stuff. I want it to look like some of the images from the Hubble, with more colour than just white stars. I plan to use black fabric as the base for this. Help?
